Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief Chapter 4

Sally drives extremely fast down the country roads, as the hurricane blows. Percy asked Grover how he knew his mom, and Grover replied saying he has never met his mom. Percy also asked Grover if he is a donkey, but Grover declines and tells him he is a satyr to be more precise. Percy is completely confused wondering if satyrs are just myths. Grover tells Percy that Mrs. Dodd's was not just a myth and the three old ladies at the fruit stand were not a myth either. Percy is wondering why nobody told him this. Percy has the urge to discover and find out what's going on and wants to know who he really is. Sally begins to tell Percy that there is no time for explaining, and that they have to get him to safety. Suddenly, Gabe's Camaro happens to explode and Percy is thrown into the back of the driver's seat as Grover also gets knocked unconscious. The car had been struck by lightning and the roof of the car has been destroyed. Sally tells Percy to run away and to get out of the car as fast as he can onto the hill near them, but Percy refuses to leave his mother behind alone. Sally helps him pick up Grover and carries him up to the hill near the tree. The monster has destroyed Gabe's car, causing it to explode. Sally explains to Percy, if the monster charges at him, he should leap out of the way at the last moment. The monster gets closer and Sally tells Percy to leave without them and to run. Percy decides to listen and so he runs, but when he realizes that the monster is already charging at him, he quickly uses his mom's advice and jumps towards the side right before the monster hurts him using his horns. The monster begins to focus on Percy's mother, who had just laid Grover onto the ground by the tree. With Sally slightly downhill, the monster grabs her, and then suddenly Sally turns into a blast of light and disappears. Captured by anger and despair at watching his mother vanish, Percy tries to get the monsters attention. The monster begins to rush at Percy, but Percy jumps up onto the monster's head, holding onto him. After struggling, Percy breaks one of the horns on the monster's head and falls back off of the monster. His head has hit a rock. The monster is really angry and charges at Percy, but Percy slams the broken horn into the monsters chest, and the monster dissolves into a sandy substance, just as Mrs. Dodd's did. He begins to carry Grover upon the hill and to the valley, and he walks to the farm house that his mother had told him to go to. He stumbles barely conscious on the steps of the house and vaguely seeing the faces and hearing the voice of Mr. Brunner and a girl. The girl says, he is the one, he must be.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief Chapter 3

Chapter Three of Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief, the chapters title is "Grover Unexpectedly Loses His Pants." While Grover has been in the bathroom, Percy tries to get home. Grover's is also behaving to weird even for Percy. Percy decides to take a cab home to visit his mom's apartment located in Queens. Percy is greeted by his step dad, Gabe Ugliano. He has a strong dislike for Percy. Gabe is in the middle of a poker party with his friends, and he forces Percy to give up any money that he has on him. Percy tries to stay calm, especially while giving Gabe any leftover money from his cab ride. Percy's mom finally arrives home, and everything begins to lighten up again. Sally Jackson is his mother's name and she loves Percy more than anything in the world, and she doesn't even bother to mention about the fact that he got expelled from Yancy Academy. She just seems too want to know if he's alright and how his year has been. Percy doesn't really express the horrible things about school and chooses to focus on only the good parts about Yancy Academy  like his friend Grover and Mr. Brunner. Percy decides not to tell his mom about what happened with Mrs. Dodd's or about those three old ladies he ran into at the fruit stand. He doesn't want to bother her with it. Percy's mom begins to tell him that she's going to take him to Montauk beach to stay in a little house only for the weekend. Percy is very thrilled and excited. Gabe has commanded Sally to make some seven-layer bean dip in front of Percy and he nearly loses his patience. Percy's mom reminds and explains to Gabe about the trip she and Percy will be taking to Montauk beach, and Gabe is not happy about the idea and says "no way." Then Sally promises to fill up the fridge with all different kinds of bean dip for the entire weekend, and Gabe relaxes. Sally and Percy get to drive Gabe's car to the rented house on the beach that they reserved. Percy explains to us that his mom had met his dad on this very same beach. She loves visiting it, and they've been going to Montauk since Percy was only a baby. Unfortunately their trip gets reduced very shortly when Sally realizes that Percy didn't tell her everything, and Grover arrives the next day during a hurricane at the front door, and Sally tells everybody to get into the car immediately.

In this chapter I was very eager to find out about Percy's home life at Queens. I will admit, I dislike Gabe a-lot, he is by far the worst enemy in the series if you ask me. I love how his mother is involved in this book through a great deal of the story. She has a very well made character, and a lot of surprises. I thought this chapter was a pretty good one. With fun characters mixing together into a Greek mythological story, sets the bar very high in my ratings book.

I think this had a type of cause and effect organizational pattern. Percy is wanted by "Gods only knows whom" is after him, and because of this he has to leave Montauk beach.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief Chapter 2

In Chapter Two of Percy Jackson, The Lightning Thief, the chapters title is "Three Old Ladies Knit the Socks of Death." And during the rest of the school year, nobody knows who Mrs. Dodds is. Percy comes to a conclusion that everyone is playing a cruel trick on him. As he proceeds with his school life, his grades get worse and worse, he becomes very aggressive in class. When the end of school approaches, he finds out that he will not be invited back to Yancy Academy for his next grade year. Though he is excited to go home and see his mom again, he is going to miss Mr. Brunner and Grover. Percy then decides that he will try to do better in Latin class. But it becomes clear to Percy that studying for his Latin exam won't be that easy. He forgets quite a lot about the Greek gods and goddesses. He chooses to ask Mr. Brunner for some advice before his exam, but as he approaches Mr. Brunner's office, he hears Grover and Mr. Brunner talking about him. Though he can't help but overhear everything, Grover speaks of things such as not having enough time, and the summer solstice and of the mist, and certain things like keeping him alive. But Percy is almost caught when he makes a peep, and runs away into a classroom. Then during the next day after his Latin exam, Mr. Brunner begins to say farewell to Percy, telling him its for the best he leave Yancy. Percy is very hurt by this coming from his favorite teacher at Yancy. Percy then leaves and Grover and him take a bus back to New York. Grover seems to be acting strange, overcautious with his surroundings. Percy tries to ask Grover about what him and Mr. Brunner we're talking about, but Grover ends up lying to him anyway. Unfortunately the bus breaks down in a nice, quiet stretch of country. Everyone then makes they're way off the bus, where three old ladies sit beside a fruit stand. Grover is not that happy to see them, and tries to persuade Percy to get back onto the bus, but Percy refuses. They three ladies stare at Percy and one of them cuts a piece of yarn and Grover is terrified.

This chapter was very exciting, and I could easily relate to it, having difficulties in school, especially on Flvs exam's. But I have noticed a lot of organization patterns, such as Spatial, Cause & Effect and even Compare & Contrast, I believe the auther was explaining a lot of details using Cause & Effect the most.
